About me

Hey there, I'm Rachel! I'm a UX/UI Designer based in London. After 8 years in the classroom engaging in user-centred design, I've made the jump into the world of design to use my experience to create products that help people thrive.

📚 Studied user research & UX/UI design with Designlab, graduated September 2023.

⚡ I made this career change because:

  • I've witnessed the impact technology has on learning and community-building, and I want to be a part of it!
  • I love taking the time to empathise with users in order to design intuitive solutions.
  • I want a new challenge applying my research, synthesis, design and advocacy skills.

🧩 Transferable skills I bring from working as a teacher:

  • Adapting and adjusting to meet user needs (nothing ever goes according to plan in the classroom)
  • Organising and conducting user research and testing to inform design decisions
  • Presenting digestible information to stakeholders (Ever taught units of measurement to 5 year olds in a way they’d understand? Or had to deliver a tricky message to parents during pick-up?)
  • Collaborating and communicating with other departments and diverse individuals
  • Remaining calm and focused in fast-paced environments

🏝️ Fun fact:

  • I lived and worked on a remote island in Micronesia (no running water, no electricity, no cell service, no wifi). Curious to know which 3 things I'd bring with me if I were to go back? Send me a message or connect with me on LinkedIn and we can compare lists!
